West Florida Flames has been selected to participate as a member of the U.S. Soccer Boys’ Development Academy for the 2018-2019 season in the junior ages U12, U13 and U14. West Florida Flames is a current member of the Girls' Development Academy and the addition of the boys is a testament to the hard work and dedication put forth by our staff. U.S. Soccer continues to recognize our commitment to embrace the Development Academy philosophy and our investment to player development. West Florida Flames will be among a selective group of DA member clubs that will participate in both boys and girls programming.
The mission of the program is to provide education, resources and support to directly impact the everyday environment for clubs to develop world-class players. U.S. Soccer created the Academy to focus on individual player development. The Academy philosophy is simple: More Training, Higher Quality Training, Less Games, More Meaningful Games, and Proper Rest Ratio. As part of the selection process U.S. Soccer reviews the following:
- Academy leadership and quality of coaching staff
- Desire to embrace Development Academy philosophy and core values
- Infrastructure and Investment of resources
- Player production history, player pool depth and geographic location.
The competitive framework focuses on the core values of the program, which emphasizes quality coaching and teaching in a positive learning environment for players. Development Academy program objectives; Individual player development within the team concept, improving the quality of coaching for players, shifting away from results-driven philosophies, and promoting a holistic approach to development: respect, lifestyle, and personal responsibility.
